Projects
Selected Projects & Collaborations
My work has developed across environmental science, healthcare education and interdisciplinary research. These selected projects trace that journey — from European research on marine pollution to current work connecting environmental and planetary health with healthcare, gender and society.
Environmental & Planetary Health Hub
I founded and coordinate the Environmental & Planetary Health Hub of the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO), an interdisciplinary initiative bringing environmental science into closer dialogue with healthcare and Lifestyle Medicine. The Hub brings together expertise from healthcare, environmental science, economics, education, and communication to advance professional education, collaboration, and action on Environmental and Planetary Health.
Environmental & Planetary Health Education
Within the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO), I am responsible for the Environmental & Planetary Health chapter of the ELMO Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine, developing educational content that introduces healthcare professionals to key environmental determinants of health. This work is part of my broader focus on strengthening Environmental and Planetary Health education and helping healthcare professionals translate environmental evidence into practice.
Gender & Toxic Exposures
In collaboration with Dr Austen El-Osta from Imperial College London, I explored how gender influences personal care practices and patterns of exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. This interdisciplinary work brought together environmental health, behavioural and gender perspectives to examine how social expectations and inequalities can shape environmental exposures and their implications for health equity. This collaboration resulted in our paper, “Gender, self-care and toxic exposures: a narrative review of personal care product use and health equity implications,” published in BMJ Public Health in 2025.
Gender & Chemicals
As a Partner in the Gender & Chemicals Partnership, I contribute to an international multistakeholder network working to strengthen recognition of the connections between gender, chemical exposures and environmental health. The Partnership promotes gender-responsive approaches to chemicals management through collaboration across research, policy, advocacy and communication.
Sustainability Economics & Environmental Health
As a regular guest lecturer at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, I teach Environmental and Planetary Health within the Corporate Social Responsibility course and collaborate on the connections between sustainability economics and environmental health. This work brings environmental science, health and economic perspectives into dialogue around sustainability and social responsibility.
Sustainable Lifestyle Coaching
Through IASIS Health Coaching, which I founded in 2018, I have worked with hundreds of individuals and families to translate environmental health, Lifestyle Medicine and sustainability into everyday choices. This work has given me direct insight into the opportunities and challenges of behaviour change, and into how family dynamics, culture, gender and social conditions influence decisions around health and sustainable living.
Environmental Chemistry Research
My research career began at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), where I worked in environmental chemistry and marine pollution and contributed to major European collaborative projects including PERSEUS, CLEANSEA, and MERMAID. This experience in environmental monitoring, pollution, and marine sustainability continues to provide the environmental science foundation for my current work in Environmental and Planetary Health.
